Legal basis

The Competence Centre performs its tasks within clearly defined legal and institutional frameworks, ensuring the independence, legitimacy and coherence of its activities in the Swiss higher education and research system.

Basis

The tasks and activities of the Swiss Competence Centre for Scientific Integrity have the following basis in law:

  • Ordinance of the Higher Education Council of 20 November 2024 on Quality Assurance Measures to Ensure High Standards of Scientific Integrity (V-SQWI; (RS 414.205.8)

  • Federal Act of 30 September 2011 on the Funding and Coordination of the Swiss Higher Education Sector (Higher Education Act, HEdA; RS 414.20) (art. 12, para. 3a, sec. 2 and art. 15, para. 1c).

  • Agreement of 26 February 2015 between the Confederation and the Cantons on cooperation in the field of higher education (CCoop-HE; RS 414.205) (art. 2, para. 2b, sec 1) (in French).

Code of coduct for scientific integrity

Furthermore, the SCCSI performs its tasks on the basis of the Code of conduct for scientific integrity of the Academies of Arts and Sciences, published in 2021, in collaboration with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) (art. 2, para. 3 V-SQWI).
